THE FUTUREHEADS, THE COURTEENERS AND FRANKIE & THE HEARTSTRINGS PLAY THE O2 TONIGHT

It feels a bit hypocritical for Zane Lowe and co. to be throwing a huge In New Music We Trust bash in the same week that their BBC overlords decided to bring the axe down squarely on the neck of Six Music but that’s the way it goes. Ignoring the turmoil of their sister stations, [...]

TWISTED WHEEL PLAY OFFSHORE 44 TONIGHT

I’ve seen Oldham-based indie outfit Twisted Wheel a few times (most notably at last year’s Evolution Festival and supporting Oasis at one of their epic Heaton Park gigs) and have always been hugely entertained by their punky mod-rock. Weller wannabes they may be, but their unpretentious, wide-eyed rock ‘n’ roll is a breath of fresh [...]

THE MISERABLE RICH PLAY THE CLUNY TONIGHT

Emerging in 2007 from the Brighton-based Wilkommen Collective that also spawned Shoreline, Sons Of Noel & Adrian and The Leisure Society, chamber-pop five-piece The Miserable Rich deliver exquisite, string-laden acoustica drenched in imagination and other inviting substances. DETROIT SOCIAL CLUB PLAY THE OTHER ROOMS TONIGHT

Unleashing their self-styled “retro-big beat-gospel-influenced-junkie folk,” Tyneside-based outfit Detroit Social Club have a firm grasp of rock ‘n’ roll’s outsider history. Having supported likeminded legends Oasis and Primal Scream in recent [...]

SO SO MODERN PLAY THE CUMBERLAND ARMS TONIGHT

Fusing hardcore, no-wave and electronica, New Zealand-based four-piece So So Modern delve deep into the rich tapestry of both rock and dance. Concerned with texture and atmospherics, the band’s spontaneous Rapture and !!!-influenced electro-punk is drenched with the unabashed energy of early acid house.
Having released a handful of singles at the tail end of 2007, [...]
